Lesson Plan

Basic concepts of ICT and Computer skills

Student outcomes and objectives:

The students will be able to accomplish/demonstrate three key skills/behaviors:
  1. The students will sum up some peripherals and parts of a PC
  2. The students must be able to know the definition of ICT
  3. The students must know the difference between hardware and software.(search for the operating system of their smart phone)

Plan:

The way in

Engagement

  • The teacher shows the students some pictures and also some devices.
  • What are the components inside the computer case? What is the connection of Ac/ cars/ television/ etc. with ICT?

The name of the lesson with the learning goals, and what is expected from the students is projected. Every student gets also a handout with the core content of the lesson with some explanation.
__For assessing prior knowledge a recognition game is done. The photos are projected and are also in the handout
__The necessary help materials are arranged in advance. (every student/group has access)
__After the quiz round a quick analyzation is done to form the groups. Each group has multiple skilled students.
__The topic of the lesson begins easy then afterwards is becomes a little difficult. Intermediate questions are asked if the students have understood the subject.
__Before the lesson, agreements are made with the students and emphasized what is not allowed during the lesson. The classroom is arranged in groups divided in 2 big groups, with space to move freely.

The way through

  • The students are motivated by working in groups, getting different assignments, discussions, presenting their opinion and with videos of modern technology and future technology.
  • The different learners are reached by videos, pictures, quiz, handout, collaboration, making a glass cardboard.

Introduction of ICT
Name and learning objectives will be presented and explained.
              Learning goals:
  1. Know and recognize the different parts of a computer.
  2. Tell the difference between hardware and software’s with examples.
Summary of the lesson is done by a quiz round.

The way forward

  • The students will be able to tell the difference between hardware and software.
  • They can tell some examples of hardware and software.
  • They can tell which technology they use daily, also with their study.
  • They can sum up the benefits and disadvantages of using ICT in their study.
  • They will have the knowledge of the parts of the computer case.

They can work better with their devices, because they understand it better(how it works)

They can work with Kahoot and Socrative (new softwares)

  • The students will observe in their group how many ICT devices there are and which software’s they have. They will also determine who has the newest operating system on their smart phone
  • At home they will make a list of ICT devices that are used frequently at home and on which they depend daily. Check the operating system/ apps.

Methodology:

Engagement
  • The teacher shows the students some pictures and also some devices.
  • What are the components inside the computer case? What is the connection of Ac/ cars/ television/ etc. with ICT?

Exploration
  • The students will try to make the cardboard glasses, using the guidelines in the handout, and will figure out as a group which software to download for it.
  • What is the difference between hardware and software?
  • Why is there a fan in the computer case?
  • What are apps actually?
  • Why is ICT necessary as a subject at school? What is the influence of ICT?

Explanation
  • After a kahoot quiz the topic is explained, also by discussing the topic.
  • Why does one need computer skills? What are the computer skills? Will the knowledge of hardware and software help someone with their work?

Elaboration
  • By collaboration and sharing their findings they will understand the link of ICT devices, hardware and software.
  • Hardware/ software / ICT are some vocabulary which is introduced during the lesson. There are mostly pictures presented, and also discussions started with the groups. There are 2 big groups which are constantly on the race of coming up with the answer first.
  • On daily basis most students communicate with WhatsApp/ Facebook and other methods without knowing that those are software’s. And that their smartphone is an ICT device with which they can communicate and do other stuff;

Evaluation
  • They must be able to tell the difference between hardware and software, the difference between the peripherals and the internal components of the computer case.
  • They will be able to tell which hardware/ ICT devices and software they use every day and how frequently.
  • They can explain what operating system is and how to look up in the smartphone.(also the game)

21st Century concepts:

Collaborative learning
Way in: Activating prior knowledge with Kahoot, formulate group answers. The teacher introduces the topic and provides explanations and instructions.
Way through: Group of students working in groups of 3, in which they first work independently, then compares their answer with their neighboring groups and then formulates as group A or B a response and share it with the rest of the class. The teacher walks past the group and assist where needed and make the necessary complements.
Way out: Group Performance is evaluated with the whole class and the difficulties are discussed.

Differentiated learning
Way in: Activating prior knowledge with Kahoot, individual answers are analyzed. The teacher gives an extra explanation if the subject is not understood by one.
Way through: If an exercise is not understood, than other students have to work together to explain, also the teacher assists with this when needed
Way out: Individual performance is discussed after the exercise is made in Socrative. Then the teacher repeats an explanation if needed.

Formative assessment:

Way in: Active prior knowledge with Kahoot quiz (multiple choice)
Way Through: Group brainstorming, discussions and working together on exercises and finding out the link between the devices and ICT. Also the link between software and hardware
Way out: Repeat the lesson with Socrative and also test the children what they know or have understood of the given subject
