One Minute Video

One Minute Video

In the one minute video some reflections are done of:

  • Why did you become or want to become a teacher?
  • What is your philosophy of teaching?
  • What makes ICTs so important in teaching?
  • I am particularly proud of…

Effective and Efficient Learning

Effective and Efficient Learning

How can we learn better and understand problems better?
How can we come up with good/better solutions?
In order to work efficiently, instead of giving individual assignments, work in groups. So students can come to a final solution with the help of cooperation and discussion.
In order to get the students engaged is the tricky part.
There are students who just want to work, others who understand a video explanation, others who just want to do an assignment to understand a subject.

Here is link to a short presentation about a ICT lesson:

LESSON STUDY PLAN

Ratio

Making a lesson plan was always a challenge during the course. But making a lesson plan is not the end, but the beginning of a lesson. In order to look for results and if the 21st century concepts do work in class we as a group gave a lesson at a primary school. We tested the concepts of student engagement, collaborative learning, differentiated instructions and formative assessment.

Here are some links of the lesson given on the 30th July 2015:

Group Assignment 2_ Rube Goldberg Project

Group Assignment 2_ Rube Goldberg Project

1. How did you come up with the idea for your machine?
Brainstorming and voting for the best fun idea. The idea came up as an imagination of one of the group member, and we build up from there.

2. How did your ideas change during the project?

Our idea changed after making our machine till the first half and then we saw that we could change some of the parts to make the design easier to make.

3. Identify each of your steps.

a) We had meetings of our design. Brainstorming and coming up with ideas.

b) Those ideas were put in main ideas and we voted.

c) After choosing the ideas we put them together in a design.

d) Then we decided who would bring which necessary tools and components.

e) After that the design was made and we tested it.

f) Eventually the design was tested and a video was made.

4. What were the different jobs on your team?

There was a leader, a coordinator, a designer, people who could put ideas together, people who could argue to put the best of the best idea together, people who looked at cost and efficiency.

5. Did you work together well? How did you solve differences of opinions?

We did work well together, because our ideas was designed quickly and made quickly also. Differences of our opinions were taken in consideration after discussing about it. After that the best 3 opinions would get voted. Sometimes we used all the 3 opinions that made our ideas a success.

7. What is each member most proud of?

Each member is proud of that our design and ideas worked. So as a group we achieved our mission.

Our video is uploaded on YouTube because of its size.

ENERGY EFFICIENT HOUSE

Explanation of the designed house

The design of this house is like an affordable house for the homeless in Suriname. Suriname is a country where most of the times it’s hot. Also we have many trees in the jungle, so I designed a house made of wood. Wood lets the area in the house cool, but concrete wall absorb temperature. To have a good ventilation it is mandatory to put as much windows as possible. To protect from the heat of the sun this house has a double wall with foam in between those walls. Between the roof and ceiling there is also foam to hold the heat back. The front side of the roof is made of glass, so that in the evening you could enjoy watching the sky and relax. On the right side of the roof are some solar panels to generate electricity. The sun is most of the times on that side, so we use the solar energy to generate electricity and store it in many batteries. In the afternoon the trees protect the house from the sunshine (No irritating sunshine in the house). All of the lights are led lights and are energy efficient, they use the solar energy. The small electronics like radio, television, induction cooktop are also operated by the solar energy. Other uses like recharging batteries of mobile phones or other electronics is also possible with solar energy.

Summary:

This design will give the poor Surinamese people a chance to live their lives and enjoy of their environment. The monthly costs for energy will be zero, so they will be able to use that money to buy food. Even if it is hot most of the times of the days of the year, but by this design they won’t feel the need of an air conditioner.

p.s. the costs of the installation of the solar panels with the rechargeable batteries is very great.

Reflection

Nowadays lessons are still given with written books and a year program. That is very clear in Suriname that pupils are told how and what to learn. The education system doesn’t actually allow the pupils to go with their thoughts beyond the given lessons. They are restricted and there is no room to develop their own talent. Not all children like math or physics, but maybe they like to write or paint. That kind of talents are not acknowledged at school. I agree with the speaker that children‘s thought or ideas mustn’t be affected or decided by a teacher or an educational system. Children can freely think of anything and do anything they like. We as the system must not work with a standard program to make the children learn. They have to teach their selves to come up with an idea or solution. The educational system must help and guide them with their education and not decide what and how to learn.

ICT- ENCOURAGING ENGLISH - ELEMENTARYSCHOOL

groepsfoto

For this project we have chosen English lessons which is given on elementaryschool. this box is new on the elementaryschool and many of the children have difficulty with it. It is often the case that a change has not always an easy gradient. Here and there there are some things that can be improved. we as a group have tried to give the subject so fascinating and fun.

Ons project staat vastgelegd op ons blog site waarin een presentatie, een video en wat gegevens voorkomt.
